Quantum of Solace (Xbox 360)
Campaign:
The campaign mode of this game is far from what you might remember in the earlier ones in the Bond series. For starters you will most likely complete the entire game within a couple hours, if even that long, this is of course if playing on an easier setting. Even then it should take longer to finish but they didn’t give this game very much substance.
One big annoyance for me is that the game doesn’t actually just follow QOS, it also has plenty from Casino Royale. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the title lead you to believe it would be both, but it doesn’t, QOS should only be QOS! Then again most players wont mind all that much because some of the most interesting parts of the campaign were scenes from Royale, like stumbling out into the parking lot drunk to get to your car.
The game features a pretty cool fighting system when going against the “boss” of each of the scenes, resembling the old arcade version of die hard where you have to press a button as soon as it appears on the screen and Bond will react accordingly. This made the game sort of fun to go through because you didn’t know when one of these scenarios would jump out at you.
I found it very difficult to actually care about or even be able to follow what was going on in the storyline of the game. Mostly since it jumped around but also because it doesn’t really give off any feeling like you should actually care that your playing it. Its more just the type you jump in and beat it and most likely you wont go back through again.
There is much to be desired though in general when it comes to the campaign mode.
Campaign – 2/5
Multiplayer:
This is where the fun begins. Playing QOS on Xbox Live makes you completely forget how lacking the campaign mode is. You have a decent selection of guns and accessories to choose from when building your configurations, not huge, but enough to get the job done. The guns in this game are pretty good though some things don’t make too much sense, like how you can basically snipe with a shotgun (play the game to understand what I’m saying).
You will find yourself playing with some of the same people occasionally so clearly there aren’t that many Xbox Live gamers taking part in QOS, but this isn’t too big of a deal as it doesn’t generally take long to find a match and there is still plenty of competition out there.
There is one annoying factor that I must point out, you will be spawn killed a lot, so be careful not to throw your controller through the TV. This game has a habit of spawning you directly in the middle of gunfire, or right in front of an enemy. I even had one occasion where I spawned directly in the same spot, right in front of the other team 3 times in a row.
Other than the minor flaws though this game is pretty fun on Xbox Live so I suggest you check it out.
Multiplayer – 3.5/5
Graphics:
The graphics in this game were somewhat decent. I wouldn’t say they are top notch by any means since the character models tend to move sort of awkwardly, not as fluid as you would like. The maps on the other hand are much better looking, and some of them look excellent when you check out the detail in certain areas. The Multiplayer maps look pretty good and you wont find too many glitches as you play. The characters look alright, not stunning by any means, but are decent enough to not retract from the games experience at all.
Graphics – 3/5
Controls:
The controls aren’t bad really, pretty easy to get a good aim on your targets. The cross hair speed is good. Maneuvering around the maps isn’t very difficult even when running. The default button layout is the typical style you would expect to use. In general its a game that you can get good at pretty fast if you are able to take it seriously enough.
Controls – 4/5
Overall I would say this game is worth owning. You can find yourself somewhat addicted to playing it on Xbox Live, I myself began playing this just recently and completely stopped playing Halo 3. Though I’m not sure how much longer that will last.
Overall – 3/5
